Online Iron Analyser
Measure iron in drinking water, sewage treatment works, wastewater and process streams using automated colorimetric wet chemistry.

Online Iron Analyser with AccuSeries
AccuSeries can automate online iron analysis for suitable drinking-water, process-water and wastewater applications. Configurable colorimetry supports treatment monitoring, coagulant control and final-water or effluent checks between laboratory results. For municipal wastewater duties, review iron monitoring at sewage treatment works. PMA also provides an independent iron application guide for wider measurement context.
An approved iron and manganese configuration uses separate Ferrozine and PAN colorimetric chemistries with a shared calibration pump and optical measurement at 550 nm against an 810 nm reference. PMA confirms range, matrix, oxidation state and interference controls before specification. Read why sites may monitor iron after ferric dosing for phosphorus removal, then explore the AccuSeries platform and online colorimetric analyser guidance.
Iron monitoring at sewage treatment works
Where iron-based chemicals support phosphorus removal, a frequent iron result can help investigate dosing performance, residual-metal trends or a developing final-effluent change. The measurement must be matched to the required iron basis and the actual wastewater matrix.
Define the operator response, sample location and verification method before selecting the configuration. The dedicated application guide explains the questions PMA will review.
Confirm before selection
- Required iron fraction and units
- Normal and upset concentrations
- Solids, colour and treatment chemicals
- Reference method and sample preparation
- Sampling point and operating response
Programmable online iron analysis
The approved multi-parameter configuration measures iron with Ferrozine colorimetry after pH control and reduction chemistry. A 550 nm measurement filter and 810 nm reference filter support the optical result.
01 / CONFIGURED METHOD
Ferrozine colorimetry for iron
Method setup controls pH, reagent sequence, optical path and the iron range required by the process decision.
- Ferrozine colour-development chemistry
- 550 nm measurement with 810 nm optical reference
- Optional iron and manganese multi-parameter configuration
02 / AUTOMATIC OPERATION
Sampling, calibration and cleaning
Automatic sequencing controls sample, buffer and Ferrozine additions before calculating and reporting the iron result. Calibration and cleaning intervals are set around the range and sample condition.
- Automatic sampling
- Automatic calibration
- Automatic cleaning
A controlled iron measurement sequence
Each iron result follows a configured sampling, reagent, measurement, calculation and maintenance sequence.
01.
Capture the sample
The internal fast loop and sample mechanism provide a representative, consistent sample volume for iron analysis.
02.
Add method reagents
The programmed sequence doses the reagents required for the selected iron method.
03.
Run the configured method
The approved iron method proceeds under controlled conditions.
04.
Calculate the iron result
The measured response is converted into the configured iron concentration result.
05.
Calibrate
Automatic calibration can run against configured iron standards at selected intervals.
06.
Clean
Automatic cleaning supports the iron measurement system between planned maintenance visits.
Iron-specific configuration checks
The iron result depends on the defined analytical form, reduction chemistry, sample colour or turbidity and the required process response.
Iron basis
Confirm the iron species or preparation represented by the reported result.
Optical reference
Review background colour and turbidity against the dual-wavelength method.
Combined analysis
Assess whether iron and manganese can share one configured platform.
Reagent control
Plan buffer and Ferrozine preparation, calibration standards and consumption.
